I do believe you'd be alive, even without your creator making you obey whatever order he gave you. You seem like a strong, resilient person. But I don't want you to think you did anything wrong by following orders.
Because I liked following orders and knowing what to do, and I did not always know that the things I did were wrong. I know now. But I still like following orders and knowing what to do.
