[ Lucky yelps when he falls off Clint, and Clint immediately reaches out to grab at Ecks' shoulders, trying to get her to stop from hurting his dog. He's still kind of laughing, though. ]
Ecks! Ecks - whoa now, settle down, he's not eating me. [ Lucky flops out on his back, watching the two of them, and Clint tries to catch Ecks' gaze. ] Hey, hey. It's okay. He's my dog. Are you okay?
[The dog is more easily knocked aside than she feared, but then Clint is grasping her shoulders and she can't move. She curls those shoulders inward and squirms instinctively to get loose, but only confusion remains from her initial shock.]
I am -- the dog is watching me. Why is there a dog?
[She focuses on him for a moment, at least, and when he lets go she doesn't make any moves toward his dog even if she keeps glancing at it. She isn't used to dogs. She isn't used to animals in general.]
He's - uh, man, I don't know, friendship? He's not very good at guarding people. He's really a good garbage disposal though. [ Lucky flops down on the floor, scooting closer to her bit by bit on his belly. ]
[She freezes when she thinks the dog is going to put his mouth around her hand -- but he doesn't. She isn't sure she likes the result all the same, and shifts her hand around to scratch behind his ear so he can't reach it with his tongue.]
Why? I do not think that I would taste very good. I do not wash very often.
[That makes sense. It seems like inexact and messy communication, but Ecks has always been adaptable when it comes to learning the languages of the creatures around her.
Cautiously, she leans down to lick Lucky on the face.]
[ Lucky is - not expecting this! There's a pause, and then Clint starts laughing for real and Lucky makes that same sort of borf sound and licks Ecks' face right back. ]
[Ecks is not prepared for the enthusiasm of the response, and she is still not at all sure that she enjoys being licked. She jerks her face back, already working her mouth in response to the uncomfortable feeling of hair on her tongue.]

It's all good. He's just licking. Dogs do that.
