Hello John. I have a concussion and I have been stabbed in the shoulder but I am not dead and I do not think I am going to die.

Doctor House was talking and Duster was talking and then Alfie came into the room and then Duster shut me in the closet and then I came out of the closet and attacked Duster and Alfie attacked Doctor House and Lockhart attacked me.

Yes, Duster stabbed me. I hit him very hard and I made him stop, though.

[Aren't you proud, John? Someone needs to be proud of her for this; she feels like she did really well but then Doctor House didn't seem to like it.]

Doctor House said Duster was an elf and Duster said he would cut Doctor House's tongue. Then Alfie came into the room and then Duster shut me in the closet. I think they wanted to hurt Doctor House and Duster did not want me to make them not hurt Doctor House. But then I hit Duster very hard.

[What... the hell? Duster is an elf? Who even IS Duster? Apparently, John is going to find out when the man turns up. This is a mess. Much more of a mess than he'd thought.]

You did very good trying to protect him and keeping Duster from doing that, Ecks. I'm sorry you got caught up in the middle of what sounds like a fight between Duster and Dr. House.

You might want to avoid staying with him. I understand you want to protect him, but he might not be what's best for you if he keeps antagonizing people.

Doctor House is very bad at not dying and I do not like it when Doctor House dies. Doctor House's leg did not work and he does not know how to fight. He is very bad at not dying.

Also we are digging in Kesara's tunnel now and maybe we will find something.

Yes, those are very good rules to have, Ecks. It's just that I don't think it's that Dr. House is just bad at not-dying.

I think he is also bad at being a friend.

Yeah. Probably. Especially if he only cares about answers.

[Don't walk this road, Ecks. Please don't. It can be an amazing one, but dear god is it ever hard.]

Listen, Ecks. I had a friend a little like him before I came here. Loud-mouthed, like show off, intelligent, amazing, the most amazing man I'd ever met. But those sorts of people burn hot. If you aren't careful you can burn up in the blaze.

It's a metaphor. Basically, he's dangerous for you. I won't try to stop you if you want to stay with him. But know it's going to be hard for you.

[It's good that he explains it's a metaphor, because that gets her to reread the first part and apply that lens to it instead of simply arguing that of course Doctor House doesn't burn because Doctor House is not a fire elemental.]

I am staying with him for now. I think he is less dangerous for me than Doctor Stitches was and he is teaching me things about brains. Doctor House is bad at not dying but he is good at not cutting people up.

I do not think I will stay with anyone forever here. Bad things eventually happen. When there were too many people before Doctor Stitches hurt Rhys. When there were too many people a few days ago the anomaly came and killed Alfie.

I think you're right there. You can come back and stay with me any time you'd like, Ecks. We don't have to travel with a big group. Rhys is doing all right now that he's come back. As all right as he can be, anyway.

Invitation's open if you'd ever like to meet up or if you ever need something. Would you might checking in with my now and again? Just so I know you're okay. Maybe we can exchange information, too? What we found. I'll probably be heading downtown after this. We'll see. I'll let you know if I find any coffee, yeah? It'll be yours. Just let me know if you find any tea.

I would like that. I have not found any more tea but I will tell you if I do. I think there will be too many people here soon but I think it is important to dig the tunnel, so I am not going to leave yet. But I would like that.

All right. Let's plan to meet up sometime after you finish the tunnel. That'd be nice. I can pick up some ice cream from the school. Did you like the ice cream we had before?

Yes. Let's plan that. Bring lots of ice cream, it was very unusual and I will need to assess it in more detail. I will need to assess it in much more detail.

[Okay. That? That right there? That's adorable. It even gets a little mental chuckle out of John, in spite of the circumstances of this conversation.]

Will do! If we get lucky, the next place you find beyond that tunnel'll have an ice cream parlor. That's a place that sells all kinds of ice cream. It comes in hundreds of flavors, not just vanilla.

There are other flavors?

If there is an ice cream parlor I will tell you where it is but I think I will not wait for you before I try it.

I'd tell you to have at it, even if you called me to say you were holding back. If there's a flavor in there called Rocky Road, make sure you try it. That's my favorite. It's chocolate ice cream with nuts and marshmallows. Brilliant stuff!

I don't know what chocolate and marshmallows are but I will try them when I can try Rocky Road.
