well, you're either an idiot or you're young with the way you respond to things
i'm going with young to be generous here
we can go with me assuming you're an idiot, too
i do that for pretty much everybody

i'm glad you've heard of physics, though
know anything else about it beyond that?
ever heard of electromagnetism?
gravity?
weak and strong nuclear forces?
rubikscomplex: (consideration | interesting)

yep
remember what i told you about atoms and electrons?
they're bound by electromagnetic wave mechanics
one of the really fun things about electromagnetism on earth is we have species that use it for navigation
any of the animals where you're from go on long ass migrations and seem to be able to perfectly navigate without any maps?
there's a reason some of them can probably do that, especially birds
and it's because of the electromagnetic field of the planet

[House is momentarily derailed from electromagnetism.]

so
you're not an elf
what are you?
rubikscomplex: (bored | innocent)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2016-04-01 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
not human either
goblin?
orc?
ewok?
cardassian?

no
you were freaking out about us moving
golem?

that's fantasy racist
and they mean things
you just don't know what they mean

so what other parts are you?
exact percentages of each genetic composition

[He doesn't actually care all that much, but he's curious if she will list them out.]

it's a genre

what the hell is a strix?
what were your parents made up of?
we can work our way back from there
rubikscomplex: (childish | cool story)

they sound like an evil corporation
so why weren't they angels?
and you really need to get better at non sequiturs
parents
what was their make-up?

i'll tell you about electromagnetism when you tell me that

[He does notice the change in how she's punctuating and capitalizing. Curious, he decides to test that. Play nice and see if she goes back to imitating.]

electromagnetic fields are formed when electric and magnetic waves couple together.

[It takes him a moment, but Ecks will get a photo of a basic diagram sent to her.]

the reason we can see is because of these interactions
the reason these tablets can interact without being physically connected is due to wavelengths represented on the electromagnetic spectrum

[Interesting. So imitation when she's comfortable. He wonders if she's consciously aware of what she's doing.]

photons are the only reason we have light

[What follows is another explanation of the principles of EM radiation and the different types of fields. How electromagnetic waves interact with magnetic waves, how light and signals are transmitted, and the like.]

x-rays and gamma-rays are the ones you wanna stay away from most
but even ultraviolet radiation'll kill you
it'll just do it slower
have your "people" discovered what cancer is, yet?
malignant growths in the tissue

terminology gets complicated quickly
for the electron vs. photon
think of it like this
electrons are matter
remember i told you about atoms?

electrons are physical pieces of matter
they have mass
they have a charge
they could probably be destroyed if you had the right technique
all of this exists on a scale that's too small to see with the naked eye, but it exists and can be physically interacted with

photons are units - packets of energy - for an electromagnetic wave
they aren't matter
they don't have mass
they don't have a charge
you can't create or destroy energy
you can only change its form

photons and electrons interact to make electricity and other forms of electromagnetic radiation work

there are x-rays and gamma-rays everywhere
they come from natural sources
it's just the concentration of them that's the problem
it's the dose that makes the poison
pretty much the only reliable way to know if there are excess levels of radiation are special sensors
or you start dying
that's the bad way to find out

what were you studying, subject?
rubikscomplex: (anger | do not like)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2016-04-18 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
call me greg again, the only thing i'll be calling you is "subject"
the name is house
rubikscomplex: (suspicious | trust issues)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2016-04-18 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
you're right
you don't
so hang up the goddamn phone like a normal person
(which you aren't)
instead of telling me that

[He's curious to see if she'll obey the order because she's upset or if she'll try to fight against it. Or maybe rationalize it as her decision before hanging up.]

(no subject)
