photons and electrons interact to make electricity and other forms of electromagnetic radiation work
there are x-rays and gamma-rays everywhere they come from natural sources it's just the concentration of them that's the problem it's the dose that makes the poison pretty much the only reliable way to know if there are excess levels of radiation are special sensors or you start dying that's the bad way to find out
